What are we about?

Having commissioned an engineering study on the future of the ‘Risca Canal’, Caerphilly County Borough Council found itself with 3 options:

The Council decided to consult the public on these options and the overwhelming opinion of local residents was in favour of option 1.  The full Council has now agreed to seek finance for this project.

An action group consisting of a number of interested parties, such as the local angling and cycling clubs, Guides and Brownies, Residents Associations, etc has been established. The purpose of the action group (Islwyn Canal Association) is to raise public awareness of the historical facility and recreational amenity we have on our doorsteps and to ensure that the canal is preserved for the benefit of the community.

We do not see our role as raising funds for the rebuilding of the canal.
