What We Are About
Having commissioned an engineering study on the future of the Crumlin Arm of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, Caerphilly Borough Council found itself with three options:
Retain and rebuild the entire length of the canal
Remove the canal over its entire length
Retain sections of the canal (remove some sections and culvert others)
The Council decided to consult the public on these options and the overwhelming opinion of local residents was in favour of option 1. The full Council has now agreed to seek finance for this project.
The Islwyn Canal Association was set up to raise public awareness of the historical facility and recreational amenity we have on our doorsteps and to ensure that the canal is preserved for the benefit of the community.
